Curtis makes the Funnies

Happy belated Father’s day to Dick Tracy readers.  Fresh off having attended the Lum and Abner festival in Mena, Arkansas, Tracy writer Mike Curtis finally made the funnies with Snuffy Smith’s John Rose in last Sunday’s Father’s Day edition of Lum & Abner.  Even better, you can listen to an audio adaption of Mr. Curtis with Sam Brown, Tim Hollis and John Rose reading the above comic strip here.  Now we know the voice of Dick Tracy!

The above visual and audio comic strip come courtesy of the Lum and Abner Society.

  1. Many thanks for this posting! I was honored when Mike Curtis and John Rose agreed to be our guest stars in Mena, and doubly honored that they’d agree to be photographed and provide their voices for my “Lum and Abner” comic strip. After Mike and Joe Staton put Lum and Abner in “Dick Tracy” last year, it was great to finally get Mike in the strip in his Tracy garb! We all had a blast!

Incidentally, the reason I started the audio adaptations of the “Lum and Abner” strip was for the benefit of the many blind friends who are fans of Old Time Radio. Many love the “Lum and Abner” radio shows, and wanted a way to follow my comic strip.

    Thanks again!

  2. Incidentally, “Lum and Abner” is also available at GoComics:

  3. UPDATE: “Lum and Abner” is not currently available at GoComics. Drat! Instead, click my name for a link to the comic strip home page. Thanks!

    • I have an additional update. Lawrence Klein, who has appeared in “Dick Tracy” as an attorney, will be making his second appearance in “Lum and Abner” on Sunday, December 17. He is also providing his voice for the audio adaptation.
